Just how big of a mini split do you need to cool a shop??
This is a video I wish I had when I was researching and building my pole barn. I did a lot of research on how many BTU is needed for certain size rooms, etc. So much depended on location, windows, room size, door size, insulation, etc. etc. It was really confusing.
So as a test, I got a window unit air conditioner to see how it fared before dropping big $$ on a permanent mini split. There are a lot of discussions on the internet about ‘if you go too big, then the unit won’t cycle enough and won’t pull out all the humidity’ vs ‘if you go to small, the unit will never catch up and never shut off’. It was overwhelming.
I hope this video helps you out!
If you do decide to go the route I did, below are links to tools and parts shown in the video to help you do it. Most of these are affiliate links so if you end up buying I will earn a small commission. Thanks for your support!

Solex insulation This is the house wrap reflective barrier that goes between the outside tin and the framing. If you have this then you don’t need a separate vapor barrier.
R19 insulation. I framed the walls of my pole barn like a house so I was able to use standard width insulation.
